Casa Dubai captures the senses with its striking concrete and wooden textures. Integrating a certain ideal with practical necessity creates that unique tranquility found between the calm of an ocean and the chãos of city dwelling. Sinuous heirarchal curves are signature features of the Dubai House that seem to have been shaped by the desert wind. Elements of amplitude and lightness from its large openings provoke a vision of infinite sand and sea while ventilating the house in the heat of the Arabian desert.
This is a modernist project with ribbon windows, large free facades and the preaching of concrete. The ground floor is reserved for living space and connects directly with the exterior and its leisure area. The level above is the ‘breath’ of the ground floor and cuts to the lower floor, deconstructing the spaces floor by floor. The staircase is the central focus leading to open areas in the upper landscape and provides air circulation to the top of the house. There, a handcrafted, elegant layout is available for gatherings like campfires or perhaps a dinner with a view to the outside. Energy of the layout is sustained by the artisanal touches which are intrinsically linked to tropicality and slower living.
The palette of cores and the versatility of the textures stand out as singular elements and reveal the functional and visual elements of the project.
